A new report published today by the Ecology Center highlighted that hundreds of children's toys being sold today are contaminated with lead, some at levels that are much higher than the federal recall level.
As a result of the recent issues with toys made in China the Ecology Center tested over 1,200 children's toys for lead and other toxic chemicals. The results are simply shocking:
- An amazing 35% contain lead
- 17% of the total products tested contain lead above the federal recall limit
- Only 20% of total products tested had no trace of lead or toxic chemicals
Lead is a highly toxic chemical which if ingested can be dangerous to children. The risk is highest when toys contaminated with lead are put into the mouth, and the paint ingested.
